Charter SELPA

Charter SELPA

We are a statewide educational organization governed by representatives from member charter schools (also known as local education agencies). We are one of the three primary programs operated by CAHELP. Similar to the Desert Mountain SELPA, our support services align with state and federal laws, informs best practices, and empowers student-focused decision-making. We work in collaboration with our member charter schools to provide educational opportunities for students with disabilities, and we serve as a resource to the community on issues related to special education, prevention and intervention supports, and behavioral health supports for all students. We are the liaison to member charter schools to consult in the area of effectiveness of special education through review and modification, coordinate services among schools and community resources, and provide professional development to school administrators, teachers, and paraprofessionals. Our members serve children with disabilities in the same manner as traditional public schools.

Any charter school within the State of California may apply for local education agency membership to the Charter SELPA. As a member to the Charter SELPA, each agency participates in the CAHELP Governance Council in the same manner as all other Charter SELPA members. Whether located within the San Bernardino County and/or outside of the geographic boundaries of the county, Charter SELPA members are responsible to comply with all provisions of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), implement federal and state regulations, and to ensure that a free appropriate public education (FAPE) is provided to all children with disabilities who are enrolled in and attend the Charter SELPA local education agencies in the same manner that children with disabilities are served in other public schools.
