IEP Implementation

In alignment with federal monitoring requirements, the California Department of Education (CDE) is collecting data on how well Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) are being implemented across the state.

What’s New?

CDE has introduced a new monitoring process that focuses on whether students with IEPs are receiving the services listed in their plans. Each Local Education Agency (LEA) will need to report:

  • The number of services prescribed in student IEPs
  • The number of services actually provided
  • A ratio showing how closely prescribed services match services delivered during a specific timeframe

If any services were provided less than 50% of the time, LEAs are encouraged to review their data and take steps to address the gap.

Key Dates

  • Next Measurement Period: March–April
  • Next Data Collection Window: May–June
Note: These dates are projected based on the prior year’s schedule. For official confirmation, LEAs should refer to upcoming CDE guidance or communications.
