Identification & Referral Process

The identification and referral process is an important part of ensuring students receive the support they need to succeed in school. It begins when a child is suspected of needing special education and related services. A referral can be made by a parent, teacher, or other professional, and once consent is given, the child is evaluated in all areas related to their suspected disability. If the child is found eligible, an Individualized Education Program (IEP) is developed to outline the services and supports the child will receive. The IEP is reviewed regularly, and progress is monitored to ensure the child's needs are being met. Reevaluations occur at least every three years, or sooner if needed, to determine continued eligibility and appropriate services.
