Paraeducators

This collaborative group, with a complementing on-line asynchronous course, is designed specifically for paraeducators supporting students with disabilities. Foundational skills in the area of academics, behavior, and collaboration, with an emphasis on core competencies, will be the focus. The course content will be self-paced on Canvas with live quarterly sessions. Participants will have the option to receive a certificate at the end of the school year. This certificate of completion for the Paraeducator Academy reflects 24 hours of content area and attendance of the four regional sessions.

In collaboration with the Paraprofessional Resource & Research Center and the CEEDAR Center, this completely online and on-demand program was designed to provide paraeducators with a learning opportunity focused on their unique role and how that aligns with specific high-leverage practices (HLPs). In this FREE program, you will be introduced to four areas of high-leverage practice: Collaboration, Assessment, Instruction, and Social/Emotional/Behavioral.

AFIRM for Paraeducator modules are for paraeducators working with elementary school students (ages 5-12) on the spectrum. However, special education teachers, general education teachers, other practitioners, and family members find the video examples and activity-based scenarios helpful. Supplemental materials and handouts are available for download.
