Low Incidence Disabilities
Understanding Low Incidence Disabilities
Low incidence disabilities are disabilities that occur rarely in the general population and typically require highly specialized support, services, and equipment. These include:
- Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH)
- Blind or Visually Impaired (VI)
- Orthopedic Impairment (OI)
- Deaf/Blindness
- Multiple Disabilities that include a low incidence condition
Students with these disabilities often benefit from specialized instructional strategies, adaptive equipment, and related services that go beyond what is typically provided in a general education setting.
See Desert Mountain SELPA Chapter 11 or Charter SELPA, Chapter 12 for information on Low Incidence Funding.
