Audiology

Hearing is important for all children. Unidentified or unmanaged hearing loss affects a child’s ability to learn language and to achieve academically. Audiological services should be designed to assess the specific needs of a child as early as possible. The Desert Mountain SELPA together with the Desert Mountain Operations (DMOPS) provide children with audiological assessments and services to allow a child to work in the least restrictive environment (LRE). The audiological program is currently a collaboration between the DMSELPA, DMOPS Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) staff and Pacific Hearing Services (PHS), a DMSELPA contractor. This following provides information regarding audiological referrals, assessments, and inventory and tracking of equipment

Audiology Procedures for Member LEAs

Below is a step-by-step guide and operational checklist for educators and LEA staff involved in managing audiology services within the SELPA. It defines roles and responsibilities for CAHELP operations, PHS, LEAs, Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), and others in areas like scheduling, paperwork, assessments, reporting, training, equipment handling, and follow-up in IEP meetings. For more information about Audiology, refer to Desert Mountain SELPA Policy Chapter 5 or Charter SELPA Policy Chapter 22.
