California Autism Professional Training and Information Network
About CAPTAIN
CAPTAIN (California Autism Professional Training and Information Network) is a statewide training and technical assistance network that promotes acceptance, support, and quality of life for individuals on the autism spectrum. Through collaboration with schools, community agencies, families, and service providers, CAPTAIN works to expand the use of effective, evidence-based practices (EBPs) across California.
Our work includes:
- Increasing knowledge and awareness of autism and EBPs through culturally responsive training and resources.
- Supporting high-quality implementation of EBPs in schools and community settings with coaching and systems-level support.
- Strengthening collaboration across agencies to ensure consistency of services statewide.
- Preparing the next generation of professionals through partnerships with higher education and mentoring programs.
CAPTAIN Cadre members--selected by local agencies such as SELPAs, Regional Centers, and Family Resource Centers--receive annual training at the CAPTAIN Summit. They then provide local training, coaching, and resources to their communities, helping schools, families, and providers integrate proven strategies that improve outcomes for individuals with autism.
CAPTAIN X
CAPTAIN X is one of 16 regional interagency teams advancing this work. Serving San Bernardino and Riverside counties, CAPTAIN X includes members from SELPAs, Inland Regional Center, Family Resource Network, and higher education.
Together, they provide professional learning opportunities, events, and resources designed to meet regional needs and promote the effective use of EBPs for autism.
