Dispute Resolution

When concerns arise, we believe the best solutions come from working closely with parents and school districts. Keeping the student’s needs at the heart of every conversation.

The SELPA assists member school districts and charter schools by ensuring that students with disabilities receive the support they need to succeed. Sometimes, questions or disagreements arise about a student’s special education program. When this happens, we are here to support early, respectful, and student-centered solutions. Our office ensures that the dispute resolution services adhere to state and federal special education laws and provide effective support for students and families.

We provide assistance by:

  • Supporting IEP teams with early problem-solving and collaboration
  • Overseeing Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) options
  • Coordinating mediations and due process hearings
  • Managing complaints
  • Providing training and guidance to both families and school staff

Below are information and links to help families and school teams understand the Alternative Dispute Resolution, Due Process, and State Complaints procedures to resolve issues or disagreements about a student's educational program. While our primary role is to support our member school districts and charter schools, we also want to ensure that families have access to information that helps them advocate for their child.
