CIM Process
The Compliance and Improvement Monitoring (CIM) Process helps local education agencies (LEAs) identify problems and take steps to improve their services for students with disabilities. LEAs in Targeting or Intensive Monitoring must complete this process every year. CIM includes:
- A review of both compliance and performance data
- Identifying root causes of the problems
- Creating an action plan to correct issues and improve student outcomes
Long-Term Improvement
CIM is a multi-year process. It recognizes that real improvement takes time, teamwork, and a sustained focus on what students need most. The goal is not just to fix a problem quickly--but to make lasting changes that lead to better support and services for students with disabilities.
SELPA's Role
The SELPA plays a key role in supporting member LEAs through the monitoring and CIM process. SELPA staff:
- Provide training and tools to help LEAs understand their data
- Guide teams through identifying areas of concern and planning solutions
- Support implementation of improvement plans
- Work in partnership with CDE and LEAs to monitor progress over time
By working together through the CIM Process, SELPA and its member LEAs aim to ensure all students with disabilities receive a high-quality education in the least restrictive environment (LRE).
