Desert Mountain SELPA
The Desert Mountain Special Education Local Plan Area (DMSELPA) is one of three main programs operated by the CAHELP Joint Powers Authority (JPA). DMSELPA works closely with local school districts and charter schools to support students who receive special education services.
DMSELPA serves as a support and resource office for its member school districts and charter schools, also known as local education agencies (LEAs). Our team works with schools to help ensure that students with disabilities receive the services and support they need to succeed in school and in their communities.
In partnership with its member districts, DMSELPA helps coordinate services for eligible students across the region. This includes providing guidance on special education programs, prevention and intervention supports, and behavioral health services for students of all ages.
DMSELPA also works closely with school leaders to strengthen special education programs. The team consults with districts to review current practices, identify areas for improvement, and support effective program development. By sharing resources and expertise, DMSELPA helps schools build strong systems that support student success.
Another important part of DMSELPA’s work is professional learning. Training opportunities are provided for school administrators, teachers, and paraprofessionals to help them better support students with diverse learning and behavioral needs.
DMSELPA also sponsors the Community Advisory Committee (CAC). The CAC brings together parents, educators, school administrators, and community partners to share ideas, provide feedback, and support collaboration around special education services.
Through partnership, guidance, and shared responsibility, DMSELPA helps ensure that students with disabilities have access to high-quality educational opportunities throughout the region.
