CASEMIS-to-CALPADS (C2C) Survival of the Fittest

CAHELP eNews | January 2020 | Issue #13

As many of you have heard, the California Department of Education (CDE) has moved to one data system for collecting student information for all students across California. In the past, Special Education Local Plan Areas (SELPAs) would use the California Student Management Information System (CASEMIS) for reporting Special Education Student Data to CDE for reporting and tracking purposes. This information was used for various compliance indicators, CA Dashboard, and multiple funding properties. At the same time, the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS) was being used with only some Special Education data along with General Education data. October 2, 2019 (Census Day) was the first time merging the two systems, in what would be a more efficient way to track all student data across the State of California.

Although there have been some bumps along the way, all Local Education Agencies (LEAs) are now reporting student data in a more centralized manner. We at the Desert/Mountain SELPA and Desert/Mountain Charter SELPA have been working hard to make this transition as seamless as possible with the help of our software programmers (Faucette Micro Systems), all participating LEAs, and the CDE for guidance. The systems merge will provide a central, cohesive system that maintains quality student-level data. The Desert/Mountain SELPA and Desert/Mountain Charter SELPA thank you for your patience as we go through this process and we learn about the importance of clean data. More importantly, we want to continue to provide outstanding service and report accurate student information to the State of California.
